My new years resolution

My new years resolution is to buy a few acres in the boonies. I'll either buy a trailer and park it out there or just put up a small cabin. If things get really bad then I'll have a place to go. Even if things don't get bad I'll have a kickass place to hang out on the weekends when I just want to get away from it all. I already know where I'm going to buy my land. Growing a decent sized garden will be feasible. There's plenty of wood and water in the area. It's far enough out of the way that everyone and their mother won't show up if things get ugly. It's close enough that I could walk there in a few days if I had to.

I don't exactly see myself longing for a disconnect from consumerism but when the lights stop turning on when I flip the switch, the heater stops coming on when it drops below a certain temperature and walking down the street makes me a little nervous whether I'm carrying a gun or not then I'll probably be willing to drop everything and move to the country. Hopefully that day never comes and I just end up with a nice little retreat to escape my day job. If that day does come then I just hope that everything I learned in my free time will be enough to keep me and mine comfortable in the future. Unfortunately, that day seems to be getting closer and closer every day.

Sounds like a plan..Im all for the camper bit and this yr Im going to get an older one even if requires fixing up..I have made up my mind on that much..about the land I have diff thoughts sometimes on that sometimes a land is a good idea and then I get to thinging what if the economy collapses and there are gangs and such..will ppl leave their land to go to some other place for safety..even if they didnt ..would they mind u using it if they did find out u were there..maybe so but then maybe they might appreciate the added protection of u being there and let u stay?..a 1000 yrs ago a friend of mind broke the law..he took his old pickup and actually lived on someone elses property w/o them knowig about it for more than 2 mos before he finally decided to give himself up...long story short ..the land owners drove by him less than 40 yards away and never knew about him being there....and as far as I know they never found out..he was that quiet in that wooded area..its amazing what stealth can do for a person..now he didnt have a camper..just an open primitive camp in the trees..I guess my point is what ur planning is good..specially if u already have the money for the land etc...but a stealthy person can get away with alot ..scott was 40 yards give or take from their long driveway and about 60 yds from the highway (in between the land owners and a major highway with cops looking for him..ol scott succumbed to J diabetes at 27..but even sick as he was he camped out in that 100+ degree heat..guess u got a good idea..just keep the camper semi ready to move as quickly as possible in case ur discovered..this comment makes no sense to me now..maybe it was the 4 beers earlier

Hey azureevirus-- man, i've been in so many 'camps' , and camped myself a time or three...

Urban-- i recently put my 1st payment down on some land. i don't want to totally disconnect, and don't believe such is possible eve if desired-- no ma lives in a vacuum.
i do desire to raise as much of my own food as possible; garden, rabbit huch, fish...

when and if TSHTF, sounds like your land locale is right-on: attainable by foot but stealth enough to attract desperate eyes..

Best of luck these coming moons on attaining what you need and desire.

I have the same dream. I'm not quite ready to 'resolve' to do it (not financially feasible at the moment) but I'm definitely ready to begin dreaming about it. :)

If you do not have money to buy land, simply go to a remote area of the nearest national forest and make a good debris hut. Do this ahead of time and you will at least have a temporary shelter to go to come SHTF
