10/1-10/3 Cheapo Generators at Harbor Freight

This weekend Harbor Freight is having a parking lot sale. Their 2 stroke 800w generators are on sale for $79.99. If your local store is compliant then you could also get another 20% off. There's a very long review thread on Arfcom that contains just about everything you need to know about this generator. The general consensus is that it's a hell of a deal, very durable and works as advertised. This little guy isn't going to run your whole house but if you use it wisely it will make a disaster a whole lot more comfortable. It will keep the lights on and it's a good solution to keep a battery bank charged. For basic stuff it's a whole lot better than nothing...especially for $80 (less if they honor the coupon). I'm not affiliated with Harbor Freight. I just know a good deal when I see one. If you don't own a generator and a genset that can run your whole house is out of your price range then consider grabbing something like this.

All I got to say about Harbor Freight is you get what you pay for. I guess this little genny is better than nothing, but I wouldn't bet my life on it...
Neither would I. If there wasn't an in depth, 11 page review thread on Arfcom then I wouldn't even look twice at it. Just break it in right after you buy it. If it survives the break in period then it should be fine. If it doesn't then Harbor Freight is as good as it gets when it comes to returns. For ~$65 (if you use the coupon) you're going to have a tough time finding something better.

My concern is the 2 stroke part. Most people have trouble getting the mix right, the right oil, spare plugs and all.Use the same oil EVERY time,at the same ratio,EVERY time! Unless you know how to read plug's and tune a 2 stroke, follow the manual to the letter.
Other than that,I think its a decent deal, but I'd still prefer a briggs and stratton.

I tried to get one, but local HF refused, said it was priced at regular $150. Told them if they were going to be that way when buying it, I could certainly depend on them being total dicks later so walked out.

Their loss, I spend some money on tools, they lost far more than the $60 they would have earned.

Generators from Champion are more dependable, have higher wattage and runtime, and come with a 2 year warranty through www.nexxtwave.com
